Saturday, April 29, is Take Two for Opening Night at the big half-mile with Fast Five racing.

UNITY TWP, PA-  Latrobe Speedway officials were forced to cancel last Saturday’s Opening Night program due to rain and dropping temperatures.   This Saturday, April 29, is Take Two for Opening Night at the big half-mile with Fast Five racing.

Take two of Opening Night on Saturday will consist of the K2 Engineering Crate Late Models, the Pro Stocks, Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks, Special T Metals LLC Modified 4 Cylinders, and the debut of the Dean Pollock Hobby Stocks.

There is anticipation for this class to grow the Grass Roots of dirt track racing. Many drivers have started in a Hobby Stock class as it’s affordable and a training ground on how to race.

A twist to this new class is the bonus offered to any team with a NASCAR throwback paint scheme or wrap that wins the Dean Pollock Hobby Stock feature. Another $500 goes to the division champion if they carry the NASCAR throwback scheme all season.  

The K2 Engineering Crate Late Model division could see an infusion of out-of-state drivers and non-regulars early in the season to familiarize themselves with the big half-mile oval before the $10,000 to-win Jesse Sterbutzel Memorial on June 3.  

Take-Two Opening Night on Saturday has the Pit gates opening at 4 p.m., the Grandstands at 5 p.m., and Fast-Five racing at 7.
