Shortman Collects First Victory at Latrobe Speedway

Latrobe, PA (July 14): An exuberant Dan Shortman celebrated his first career win at Latrobe Speedway on Saturday, taking the Checkered flag in the Marilungo Disposal LLC Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders feature.

Other winners on Saturday were Braeden Dillinger in the K2 Engineering FASTrak Pro Late Models, Brett Hutira in the Wisneski Waste Removal Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, Jeremy Zufall in the Joe’s Body Shop and Towing Pure Stocks, and Colton McNaney in the Special T Metals Modified 4 Cylinders.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, SNB Promotions announced they were pushing the racing program back one hour to an eight PM start due to the excessive heat.

Braeden Dillinger (14D) took the preferred line into Turn 1 in the K2 Engineering FASTrak Pro Late Models and held on to win in the 20-lap feature. Ryan Frazee (17F) stayed close to Dillinger for the entire race after Dillinger beat Frazee to Turn 1. Clinton Hersh, fresh off of an impressive run with the World of Outlaws on Thursday at the Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway, came home third at Latrobe. John Over (K2) made an impressive effort after an early miscue to finish fourth. Troy Shields (11S) finished in the fifth spot. Ryan Newman (12) made his first visit to Latrobe Speedway from Lemont Furnace, PA.

In the Joe’s Body Shop and Towing Pure Stocks 15-lap feature, Jeremy Zufall (1) started on the pole and had the lead grabbed away by Corey Faris (22F) on lap 7. Faris kept the lead until lap 12, when the 22F broke an axle, ending his night. Zufall regained the lead to take the win. Joey Koteles in the No. 20 was second, followed by the No. 81 of John Hollis in third, with John Cain (06) in fourth and the No. 32 of Ron Ramsey in fifth.

Brett Hutira (4), a multi-time winner in previous seasons with the Wisneski Waste Removal Penn Ohio Pro Stocks bagged another victory over Marty Spade (18S), Tommy Dembowski (79) would finish third, legendary Vintage Modified driver Wally Stock drove Joe Kelly’s No. 66 to a fourth-place finish, and Barry Faris (3C) finished fifth.

On the way to the track, Colton McNaney had some bad luck as he had a wheel bearing on his trailer brake. Fortunately for McNaney, the racing program was already pushed back an hour, which allowed the eventual winner (51) of the Special T Metals Modified 4 Cylinders feature to make it to the track in time to race. After an exciting day and evening, McNaney remembered dedicating the win to his Dad on his birthday. Jeremy Grubbs (62) finished second after starting fifth, and Chris Myers (830) finished third, coming from the seventh starting spot after his win last Saturday. Shawn Ghrist (89) would finish fourth, and Jeremy DeGlau (30) finished fifth. After running as high as fourth during the race’s mid-point, Tifani McElhose (24) lost a wheel and finished the last lap on three wheels to take the seventh spot.

Dan Shortman, who once sat in the stands at Latrobe and Motordrome as a kid, captured his career victory in the Marilungo Disposal LLC Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders 12-lap feature on Saturday. Shortman praised the track for having an excellent division for racers to start their racing career. Seth Nedrow (26) finished second, Brian Noel (39) finished third after starting sixth, Dylan Nedrow (16) finished fourth, and the No. 21 of Justin Connors finished fifth.

Next up at the Latrobe Speedway will be the return of the Jay’s Automotive ULMS Racing Series Super Late Models for the Dave Kittey Memorial on Saturday, July 20. The $5,000-to-win feature will be subsidized by special monetary prizes for several categories. More information will be released during the week.
