Huffman & Vargovich Add Names to Latrobe Winners List; Frazee and Faris Get Second Wins
LATROBE, PA (July 17, 2022) – Latrobe drivers Tylar Huffman (Stone & Co. Modified 4 Cylinders) and Brad Vargovich (Seal Tite Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders) added their names to the 2022 win list Saturday night at Latrobe Speedway. Ryan Frazee, of Addison, won his second in the K2 Engineering Crate Late Models while Corey Faris won his second in the Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks.
Faris started on the outside front row in the Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks. He wasted no time taking the lead being chased by Stephen Hazlett. The lead duo set the pace while seventh starting Anthony Monteparte quickly worked his way forward taking third from Ron Ramsey on lap four. Monteparte chased down Hazlett and was able to pass him on a lap 10 restart. Faris still led the way but now had to deal with four-time winner Anthony Monteparte. The Flying Italian was all over the back bumper of Faris but wasn’t able to find a way around in the final three laps. Faris drove to his second win this season. Monteparte held on to second over Stephen Hazlett, Ron Ramsey, John Cain, Justin Ruff, Joey Koteles, Jim Hixon, Jim Zufall and Shawn Hollis. Heat winners were Hazlett and Faris.
Lap one of the 20-lap K2 Engineering Crate Late Model feature was led by Jeff Ferguson. Ryan Frazee drove into turn three and took over the top spot. Frazee was a man on mission and left the field in a hurry. A caution on lap seventeen closed the field but to no avail. When the green flew Frazee took off leaving a major shake up for the number two spot. Fourth place Clate Copeman made a great move out of two to take over the runnerup spot. Copeman wasn’t able to mount a challenge as Frazee checked out for his first win since May 21. Copeman was second followed by Jeff Ferguson, Michael Duritsky, Troy Shields, Michael Ott, Joe Zulisky, Braeden Dillinger, Vince Masi and Dylan Burkett. Grabbing heat wins were Ferguson and Frazee.
Brad Vargovich went green to checker in the 12-lap Seal Tite 4 Cylinder Strictly Stock feature. Joe Huffman ran in the second spot until laps eight when Joe Jacobs took over the chase. Vargovich ran off to his first win of the season with Jacobs second. Rounding out the field was Huffman, Jeremy DeGlau, Justin Connors, Mark Shaffer, Sadie Lancashire, Sierra Hart-Fabbri and Shelby Lynn DiCriscio. Joe Jacobs was the lone heat winner.
Tylar Huffman took off at the drop of the green in the 12-lap Stone & Co. Modified 4 Cylinder feature.
Huffman was looking to get back in victory lane for the first time since May 22 of last year. Huffman may have led every lap but he was pressured all the way. Last weeks winner Paul Koffler III was on him for the first eight laps before mechanical failure gave the spot to 12th starting Colton McNaney. McNaney was all over the back bumper of Huffman the final two laps but fell just a little short in settling for the second spot, Chris Myers, Wyatt Piper, Adam Jones, Dale Grubbs, Brian Spangler, Shawn Ghirst, Alex Starcher and Brian Noel completed the top ten. Qualifying heats went to Brandon Myers, Wyatt Piper and Paul Koffler III.
