The Truth Prevails on Night 2 of Fall Fest at Latrobe Speedway

LATROBE, PA (September 21, 2024): Gregg Satterlee wins the Ron Schmucker Memorial ULMS feature on Night 2 of Fall Fest at Latrobe Speedway. Other winners include Corey Faris, Wally Stock, Vincenzo Fiolla, and Jake Gracan.

Gregg Satterlee, aka “The Truth,” honestly showed the field why he is among the best regional Super Late Model racers. While he doesn’t race as much as he once did, Satterlee means business when he shows up at the track. Series regular Logan Zarin and frequent visitor to the series Ryan Montgomery lead the front row to the green flag for the Ron Schmucker Memorial. Satterlee started fourth but would take over the lead from Zarin on lap 4. Zarin would assume the second spot for one lap, and then Montgomery would get around the Hookstown native Zarin for second. Jared Miley would enter the picture and grab third from Zarin. The race stayed that way until Kyle Lukon took over fourth on lap 10. The 22 of Satterlee and Montgomery stayed close; the real race was between Miley and the 184 of Lukon. The PA-based duo battled until lap 28 when Miley went high; Lukon went to the low side and got around him on the low side to capture third. Zarin would get around Miley for fourth, and Miley finished fifth. Unfortunately, the Dave Kittey Memorial winner, Alex Ferree, broke driveline components on the cool-down lap of the time trials after setting a fast time in qualifying. Ferree didn’t make the call for his Heat race and started the feature in the nineteenth spot. After fixing his Rocket, Ferree in the #1 Cochran Lynn Geisler-owned Super Late Model made it up to the eighth spot at the finish. Zarin, Satterlee, and Montgomery won the Heat races.

“This place is only an hour from my house, and I can’t believe this is only the second time I’ve been here,” Satterlee said in Victory Lane. “It’s an awesome race track; it’s nice and smooth, you could definitely pass, and the track was great. It was a lot of fun tonight; the car was really good. It’s good to get the win; thanks to Latrobe and ULMS for having the race. Hopefully, we can get more races here, it’s a good track. Bigger race tracks suit me better, I look forward to coming back.” Ryan Montgomery raced on Friday in the Rick Frazee Memorial for the K2 Engineering FASTrak Pro Late Models, finishing second. Montgomery would finish second again for the second night in a row. “We had a pretty good shot tonight,” Montgomery said. “We put ourselves in a good position early on. “Greg is just lights out; he’s tough to beat. I knew when he got around me at the start, it would be tough to try and drive back by him. I couldn’t hold a candle to him.” Kyle Lukon has previously won at Latrobe in the Crate Late Model and finished fourth in the Rick Frazee Memorial on Friday. “It really didn’t start out great last night when we cut a tire in the heat race,” Lukon said. We weren’t sure if we were going to run the feature last night; we thought about just starting and parking and forgetting the rest of the weekend. I said if we started moving forward last night, we would stick it out. On the first lap, we passed seven cars; I said, I am committed now; we finished fourth.” “Tonight, we struggled in qualifying, and in the heat race, I broke a brake caliber and lost brakes, just holding on for the last few laps,” Lukon said. “I was worried about tires in the feature. I talked to Alex Ferree, and he said they won’t last. Our tires (American Racers) were going to give up or make it to the end. Jared Miley and I ran door-to-door til the end. To be on the podium isn’t something we expected tonight.”

Corey Faris led most of the laps in the 15-lap Joe’s Body Shop and Towing Pure Stock feature, with Matt Weltz close behind. Brad Koteles finished third, Jeremy Zufall was fourth, and John Hollis was fifth. Heat race winners were Faris and Weltz.

Wally Stock blistered the field of Modifieds, winning his thirteenth race of the season, and Vincenzo Fiolla, in a Sportsman Modified, kept pace while taking the win in the Sportsman Modified. The heat race winners were Stock in the Modifieds and Fiolla in the Sportsman.

The Crown Vic Northeast Series put on a great show, with door-to-door racing for fifteen laps. The nineteen-car field included many new cars and drivers. Lucio Angelicchio in the No. 43 led until lap 11 when he spun in Turn 2. Mike Bakalon, in the No. 48, assumed the lead until Jake Gracan, in the No. 12, made the pass for the win.

The Schmucker family and friends raised money for additional awards for every race in every division at the Ron Schmucker Memorial.
