Dillinger, Weltz, and Boggio repeat, Jacobs and Lawver win first on Latrobe Speedway Fan Appreciation Night

Latrobe, PA (July 28, 2024): On a night dedicated to Vince Masi Sr who passed away earlier in the week, two new winners visited Victory Lane with Joe Jacobs (27) in the Special T Metals Modified 4 Cylinders and Buddy Lawler (00) in the Marilungo Disposal LLC Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders.

Vince Masi Jr., the driver of the No. 61 K2 FASTrak Pro Late Model, spoke about his dad before the start of the event.

Four grand prizes were drawn, along with other rewards, for the loyal Latrobe Speedway fans. Teams had Hero cards and other giveaways for the fans on the front stretch before the cars took to the track.

Braeden Dillinger picked up his fifth win of the season and two second-place finishes in the K2 Engineering FASTRAK Pro Late Models. At one point, Dillinger had almost a front stretch on the field. Dillinger also won the Heat race.

The Joe’s Body Shop and Towing Pure Stocks had a barn burner, with Jeremy Zufall (1) and John Hollis (81) on the front row. Matt Weltz’s No. 717 started third in the feature, working his way up to and passing Zufall for the top spot. Cory Faris (22F) won last week and was relegated to the seventh-place starting spot. Faris battled for the second spot, which he captured on lap 6. Zufall finished third, John Cain (06) was fourth, and Jim Zufall (3Z) was fifth.

Faris acknowledged Weltz’s effort in Victory Lane with a thumbs up in a show of good sportsmanship.

Weltz and Faris were winners of their Heat races.

The Special T Metals Modified 4 Cylinder was another excellent race, with Joe Jacobs (27) and Jeremy Grubbs (62), as Grubbs had his nose into Jacobs’s left-rear quarter panel for most of the race. Brandon Myers (307) came from fifth to finish third. Colton McNaney (51) suffered a flat on lap 9, went to the pits, and returned to finish fourth. Andrew Jones (513) went from eighth to finish fifth. Tifani McElhone (24) returned to action after a fire the week before.

McNaney and Jeremy Grubbs won the Heat races.

Buddy Lawver (00) won the Marilungo Disposal LLC Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders for his first win. Lawver sat on the pole but fell back to third until regaining the lead on lap 11. Dan Shortman (9) was second after losing his transponder, Brian Noel (39) was third, Seth Nedrow (26) finished fourth, and Jimmy Love (13) finished fifth.

Paul Koffler III, who was in the No. 5 and substituting for his daughter, and Seth Nedrow were the Heat race winners.

Dean Pollack Hobby Stocks
was back in action, with Dontae Boggio (30) taking the win and Bryce Hensel (5) winning the Heat race.
